About the Berkeley Heights Community Pool
Established in 1964 by a group of residents who wanted to provide a safe, fun, relaxing summer setting for the town to enjoy, the Berkeley Heights Community Pool has served families in Berkeley Heights and surrounding neighborhoods every summer since then. We offer an Olympic-size swimming pool featuring two diving boards and a large slide. Our shallow end is 2.5 feet deep, perfect for our preschoolers learning to swim. We also have a baby pool for our youngest swimmers. Our facility is staffed with lifeguards trained in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program, as well as swim instructors that have been trained in the American Red Cross Water Safety Instruction program.
In 2016, the Berkeley Heights Community Pool was under the supervision and advisement of the Summit Area YMCA. As of April 2017, the Summit Area YMCA adopted full management of the community with the pool taking on the name of the Berkeley Heights Community Pool at the YMCA. As per a contract agreed upon with the Township of Berkeley Heights, the Summit Area YMCA has agreed to construct a 36,000 square foot facility on the township-owned land and within the first six years of the lease, build an entire new outdoor pool facility. Since April 2017, the Summit Area YMCA has made several improvements to the community pool facility, such as re-surfacing the baby pool, improving the main building and restrooms, added a staff room for staff members, and provides deck and lounge chairs for all members. The Berkeley Heights Community Pool at the YMCA operates independently from the Township of Berkeley Heights and is therefore not subsidized. Membership Fees fund the entire facility and are determined by estimated costs to do so.
In addition to our two pools, The Berkeley Heights Community Pool at the YMCA has beautiful grounds. Along with the area surrounding the pool deck, there is a large upper picnic area on our hill with a beach volleyball court. There are tennis and basketball courts, as well as horseshoes, bocce ball, and various painted deck games for our members to enjoy. We provide comfortable lounge, Adirondack, and rocking chairs for all members and there is a full service snack bar facility. We have a swim lesson program for ages three and up, as well as a competitive summer swim team that competes against other local towns throughout northern and central New Jersey.
To create happy and family-friendly environment for the entire community, while upholding a reputation of safety and excellence.
Building on a history of family recreation that began in 1964, The Berkeley Heights Community Pool seeks to create an aquatics facility for the residents of Berkeley Heights and the surrounding areas that is reasonably priced, is suitable for all ages, and promotes a safe and family friendly atmosphere. With the assistance of American Red Cross Lifeguard Professionals, we seek to reduce and prevent drownings and keep patrons safe through responsive aquatics safety training.
